Experience Working with Wisdom Bear Consulting

In the summer of 1999, APCOA/Standard Parking was developing a new Revenue Reporting System for its 1500+ locations around the country. The new system had to incorporate the various business practices inherited after the merger/acquisition of at least 7 different parking companies. It was vital to the overall operations of the company that we all work from the same System platform.Knowing the companies’ long- term success was at stake, the Revenue Reporting Project Team decided to hire Wisdom Bear Consulting, headed by Mr. Allan Lombardo.

Mr. Lombardo has extensive experience in the Parking Industry, technical business knowledge and an intuitive business sense. But equally important is his integrity, his skills as a “teacher” and the respect he garners from all levels of managers - front line to senior executives. He also was focused on the customer and the quality of the product being delivered, which he linked directly to the long-term viability/profitability of the company.

The Team completed the design of the new system and the required training manuals. The only job remaining was to train over 500 managers in 16 cities within a 4 month time period.

Mr. Lombardo attended each of the training sessions, conducting a session entitled “The Basics of Parking”.This was meant to be a refresher course for managers on the basic elements of revenue control, but it also laid the foundation for the new Revenue System. He also assisted in administering the “hands on” Case Study portion of the training session. It was during the presentations and interaction with the managers that he demonstrated his ability to “think on his feet” and educate all levels of management. The feedback we received from the managers attending the presentation praised the content and delivery of his materials, because of its direct, immediate and positive impact on field operations.

In looking back at my involvement with Mr. Lombardo, I was impressed with the breadth and depth of his technical business knowledge. But even more impressive was his understanding of the human aspect of business, how the personalities in an organization work together to deliver goods or services and what a customer expects from a service company. He could think strategically as well as get into the details of business issues to arrive at a solution. And whatever solution was developed, Mr. Lombardo had no hesitation in actually implementing the solution ---something other consulting firms usually shy away from.

To this day, the company is using the same Revenue Reporting System that Mr. Lombardo helped develop and implement. It has improved productivity, reduced administrative costs, improved reporting capabilities / timeliness and unified the various operating units into one company.
